Maca is an herb that grows in the andes of Peru, where it has traditionally been used both as a traditional food and to support a healthy stress response, promote energy and vitality, as well as increase libido in both men and women. Maca powder comes in both gelatinized and raw formats. Gelatinization is a steam and pressure extraction method that separates the active consuents from the inactive starch. Gelatinization is 100% vegetarian. During the gelatinization process, maca is exposed to a temperature of 194 Fahrenheit for 5 seconds. Removal of the starch results in a more concentrated product than raw maca, higher levels of key actives and it is easier to digest and be rapidly absorbed by the body than raw maca. The gelatinization process also reduces many microbial issues.
